Final report--What to feed German guests in the US
First of all--thank you to everyone who responded to my earlier post re: "what to serve German guests for dinner. After digesting (pun intended) all your answers our dinners were:
Night one--Homemade spaghetti & meatballs--evidently Italian is common to eat out but almost never served at home, let alone made from scratch. Lots of garlic and tossed salad--big hit.
Night two-- Went out to local teppanyaki--Our friends from Hamburg had never heard of cook at your table meals, it got them the steak dinner I had wanted for their US trip, and got me out of the kitchen. Big hit #2
Night three-- BBQ baby back ribs, grilled corn on the cob, slow simmered turnip greens, bow tie pasta/veggie salad with feta cheese vinaigrette, watermelon, chocolate brownies with frosting. They thought they had died & found paradise! Was exactly what they had always pictured American food as and was better than they had ever hoped.
