Looking for a market that sells marinated carne asada

I need to buy 30 lbs of carne asada and 30 lbs of chicken or al pastor meat to make tacos for a large party. Which market has the best tasting carne asada? Looking for a place on the eastside (Silver Lake, Echo Park, East Hwood, Highland Park, etc)

If you aren't comfortable with a Mexican/Central American market their is also a Jons right across the street that would have what you are looking for as well. It might not be quite up to the level as Villalobos, but I like Jons for their ethnic offerings quite a lot.

thanks! I think I will check this place out.

      2. Doesn't Trader Joe's have it? Not in large proportions, though.

        1. Fresh & Easy has it. But in smallish (couple pounds, maybe) packages.

          1. Vallarta Market has great marinated meats. But the closest location to the east side is North Hollywood. Which is not so close!

They have an East LA branch too, and that would probably be the closest one to Silver Lake.

I just looked. Did you mean this address?

                3425 Whittier Blvd.
                Los Angeles, CA 90023

            2. Love the carne asada at Northgate Gonzalez. It is the simplicity of their carne asada that I love since the section of meat (plate/flap) is such a tasty cut.

Also their shrimp ceviche is really good.

              1. Up the 2 freeway try Super King on San Fernando has marinated asada.

If you can go down to Koreatown, there is a Mexican market called Northgate Market on Olympic near Hoover that has a big meat section. Haven't tried their asada.

I would like to warn the OP, if he's planning Cinco de Mayo festivities he should make sure the place he's getting the meat from holds the meat for him. Might require a deposit. I was in Sanchez Carniceria (it's on the west side, so not relevant to the OP) during a weekend just before Cinco de Mayo. At around 1:30 pm, they announced they had run out of the meat to make carne asada. They had sold a lot of meat and I don't think they weren't well-stocked that morning. I saw lots of people buying 5-10 pounds of asada while I was in the place.

Kobe, have you tried their carnitas?

No I haven't. But I have had them at Vallarta and they are pretty good.

                  2. The Super A on York and really good marinated meats. Good Salsa & Homemade chips too.
