Mom's Birthday dinner, just us two. Keiko?

sparkerly May 1, 2013 11:22 AM

Hello all! My mom hasn't really been to many fine dining places so I want to take her to one in SF. She's been to Atelier Crenn (she felt the price wasn't justified) and TFL.

I was thinking Keiko since we both enjoy Japanese and French flavors, but what do you chowhounders think of Keiko? Any other recommendations? Thank you!

Went to Keiko last year and liked it.

I haven't been to Keiko. I think Ame does a good job of melding Japanese and Western flavors.

Keiko is awesome -- just take your mom there.

Which menu did you have at Atelier Crenn?

            Chef's grand tasting menu ($160)

            with wine pairing ;)

To be honest, I enjoyed it a lot but my mom didn't

In that case, maybe Commis. It's $75 for a meal that would probably cost over $150 in SF.

commis is a great value. i'd still choose, keiko's, though, because i think the cooking is more different from crenn than commis is. (more minimalist / traditional.)
