Lunch on 5/4/13 in Midtown

I am in town for the weekend and staying at the Marriott Suites Midtown. I need a recommendation for lunch on Saturday that is either within walking distance of the hotel, or a Marta station, as we do not have a car. I would like to eat somewhere that is "quintessential southern" - something that I can't find in NYC. I checked some of the posts on this board and came up with the following:
1) South City Kitchen has no tables available
2) I emailed Empire, but have not heard back from them and
3) Silver Kitchen doesn't take reservations.
Any other suggestions?
We are attending a wedding on Saturday night, so we want to eat kind of early, say around noon.

  1. well its not souhtern but veni vidi vici is very good. For some good southern food you might walk to silver skillet--its a very low key spot just on the other side of the highway--been there froever, and whenever i go there i get the banana pudding as dessert. The ambienec is that of an old diner, but its clean, and food is very good--its a hangout for Tech professors and students--but its go lots of pure souhern food

I'm with you on Veni Vidi Vici, very good.

Unfortunately, like ESS, Veni Vidi Vici is not open for Lunch on Saturdays.

    2. Empire State South. Go for it.
South City Kitchen... No tables available on Saturday at noon? Whatever. Don't believe that for a second. And not worth it.
Go with ESS. Right by MARTA and nice outdoor seating. Call them.

FYI - ESS did get back to me and they no longer serve brunch on Saturdays. They open at 3:00 for small plates and drinks.

      2. What about Mary Mac's Tea Room? It's about a 4-5 block walk from the North ave. MARTA station and is open for lunch on Sat. You'll get a lot of debate on this board about how good it is, but if you're limited in options (and it's starting to sound like you are), this might be your best bet.

        1. I've been to JCT Kitchen for a Sat lunch a couple of times and really enjoyed it.
