Delicious Lunch at Dinis Restaurant Peabody

Having driven by Dinis Restaurant many times I finally found time today to stop in for lunch and boy am I glad I did. Dinis is a very authentic Portuguese restaurant that is serving a delicious assortment of Portuguese specialties. The lunch menu, which is available on their web site provides a great list of the dishes they serve but in addition to the menu items they also had five or six daily specials which the waitstaff told me changes almost every day. Even though I was really tempted to try their Carne de Porco Alentejana (Marinated pork cubes, littlenecks and potatoes) one of the specials was grilled fresh octopus served with boiled potatoes, steamed broccoli and carrots. I couldn't pass this up. The octopus was very tender and perfectly grilled with a lite char. The plate it was served on had a coating of very fruity olive oil in which garlic slices were sauteed. The veggies were all nicely cooked and complimented the octopus perfectly. When I cut into the potatoes they soaked up some of the oil making them extremely tasty. All of this made for a very delicious lunch.

Dinis has a full bar as well as a very attractive dining area which would be a great place for dinner with friends.

The service at the bar where I sat for lunch couldn't have been better and I took the suggestion to have a bottle of Portuguese beer to accompany my grilled octopus.

They have a small dessert menu which includes a house-made Flan which I couldn't resist. It too was very good.

Dinis is a real Chowhound find and I haven't seen it mentioned on this board before but it really deserves to get some recognition. My lunch was some of the best Portuguese food I have ever had and I can't wait to return and explore their menu more.

      Hi Opinionated:
You and I seem to have similar tastes in many different types of foods and restaurants so I'm confident that you will enjoy Dinis. They have only been open about 6 months or so and they are trying hard to offer authentic Portuguese food. I can't wait to go back.

    2. Yeoman work! I didn't even know there was another Portuguese restaurant in Peabody!

If I know some of the Portugese places it's probably enough octo for 4 people.

It was certainly an adequate portion and I guess because it was one of the daily specials it was priced at around $16.00 or so. It is a substantial lunch for sure because they also serve a nice basket of Portuguese bread and rolls and a small dish of olives

Much more upscale that Trackside, much more expensive...My Mom got her normal caldeirada at Dini's...They only offered a 1/2 lobster-containing version, so it was $29. It was, however, enough for two people, and very good. That seemed to be the only "value-added" entree, quantity wise...OTOH, Trackside is often out of any size caldeirada when we go.

          2. How does it compare to the Trackside?
