That list is from July 2012, so Atera barely existed at that point.

I don't agree with everything on the list, but it's a good jumping off point for visitors. "Best" isn't objective, so I'd take any list like that with a grain of salt.

The presenters said it was a list of their "favorites," not "best.."

Travel and Leisure is a basically glossy travel brochure web site from American Express Publishing, not really a great source of food journalism (and they constantly ask me to use my food photos for free).

I don't really trust any top X list that makes you click through a whole slideshow (which is just a grab for extra pageviews).

Why do they have to ask you, when Food & Wine is literally like a few cubicles away.

Oh, I have a few emails from FoodandWine.com asking for free photos, too.

Why not freelance for them and get paid to do what you are already doing and loving?

They have a very low or $0 budget and these long listicles/slide shows need a ton of photos. It does not make sense to spend too much on a 100 top X list that is a cheap tactic for page views.

So they poach off foodies on Flickr who already have existing photos and are just thrilled to have their work on someone else's site. And who don't care about being paid what their work is worth.

This is another reason why I take these sorts of "top whatever" lists with a big block of salt.

                  This.

Although, I'm shocked that they even need to go to outside sources. Do they not attempt to get PR photos first?
