BBQ near San Antonio Airport on a Sunday night

jpie Apr 28, 2013 10:05 AM

I am serving in the Peace Corps in Mexico but will flying to St. Louis in a week for a conference. I will be flying through San Antonio both ways. I arrive at SAT around 6:45PM on a Sunday night. I really want some decent BBQ but most places are either closed on Sunday or close at 6PM on Sunday.

Here are the choices I seem to have so far:

Smokey Mo's Bar-B-Q (Sun 8-8)
19851 Hwy 46 W
(Just east of 281 on Hwy46)

Bill Miller’s closest to SAT but seems more like a driven-in?
8403 McCullough Ave
San Antonio, TX 78216
Store Closing Time:
8:30pm Sun-Wed

The county Line BBQ
The County Line, Interstate 10, San Antonio
11AM-9PM Sunday

Dickey’s BBQ Pit
834 NW Loop 410 Ste 105 San Antonio, TEXAS 78216
Store Hours: Sun.-Sat. 11 am-8 pm

Grady’s BBQ
Sundays 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
327 E. Nakoma

Heart O' Texas Barbecue
19903 Stone Oak Parkway, Suite 101
San Antonio, TX 78258
12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sun

Porky’s burgers and More (pulled pork)
Dinner 3pm-11pm all day sat & sun.
4511 NW loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78229

I am really after some great pork ribs mostly and good sauce-all the other BBQ stuff is just icing on the cake so to speak.

Any ideas of more/other places or advice among those I have found? I will most likely be taking a cab versus renting a car, so closer is better-but I will travel to something really good :) I have a 6AM flight the next day so can't back out to the BBQ towns this trip-rats!

I've never been to the Smokey Mo's in San Antonio, but I used to live close to the one in Cedar Park, north of Austin.

It was our local neighborhood "go to" joint. It wasn't good enough that I've driven back up there since I moved to Houston (unlike the various legendary Central Texas smoked meat markets to which I do drive), but we ate there a lot and liked it pretty well.

Given your specific requirements, I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Please understand that BBQ is better earlier in the day. Best luck to you, my friend.

Two Bros is one of the best and is open Sundays, not far from the airport.

Second on Two Bros. Easily the best in the area around the airport.

And it looks like they deliver-so that is also an option :)

            Thanks for the recommendation!

I just checked and two brothers is only open til 7PM on Sundays and my flight arrives at 6:44 and is an intl flight so no way I will make it! Rats-any others on the above list that might be good enough to consider? Otherwise I could place a delivery order to the Aloft where I am staying-but I might have to zap it....

see if 2 bros might be willing to deliver your food to their sister restaurant, Bin 555, which is right around the corner. Can't hurt to ask.
