Singapore - Weekend brunch options at Spruce, Bukit Timah Old Fire Station

The original Spruce at Phoenix Park, set amidst lush greenery away from Tanglin Road, had always been one of my favourite places for casual dining. Now, its newer branch set in the 60-year-old Bukit Timah Old Fire Station building, offers the same basically the same menu, but amidst an even more charming environment. The wild tropical rainforest of Bukit Timah Reserve loomed in the background, whilst the high-ceilinged old fire station provided a spacious feel to the bustling dining room.

Our brunch options:
- Big Brekkie, consisting of scrambled eggs, with bacon, German sausages, mushrooms, focaccia toast, roasted tomato and potatoes.
- Eggs Benny - unusually: corn waffles, topped with back bacon and poached eggs, and Hollandaise sauce.
- Banana hotcakes with honeycomb butter and blueberry syrup, sprinkled with fresh blueberries - this is the best item we had this morning: a rip-off from the Bills Cafe menu in Sydney, but done very well nonetheless, saving us a trip Down Under.

Hotcakes! Sounds like my kind of place. It's a bit out of the way for me though. Are the eggs good?
