  1. Sort of new. Same owner, Deepak Aggarwal, trying a third? formula for the space, which was Khana Peena Express and Punjabi By Nature. Sounds like this time he's trying the Mint Leaf approach.

His other approaches aren't things I return to eat. I haven't been to Mint Leaf, but I've been to 2 incarnations on Oxford, and used to visit KP Solano on occasion, but stopped altogether.

I had a good meal at Khana Peena on Solano, but with Ajanta right across the street ...

Is this the same owner of the Khana Peena on College Ave in Rockridge? If so, we thought it was pretty ordinary, except for two things: the mango lassi (which took quite a while) was one of the best I've ever had, and the Kama Sutra wallpaper border encircling the skylight is.....priceless!

He owns both branches of Khana Peena and Mint Leaf.

      3. went here the other night. cocktails are excellent and reasonably priced, on par with if not better than those at DOSA.

food is tasty, can definitely taste the higher-quality ingredients - the tandoori and street food dishes were especially good. however, the price to portion ratio is off. small plates is one thing, but the two of us had about six different things and still left hungry (while spending a considerable amount). they're new though; so i'll give them a second chance eventually for a full dinner, as i'm guessing they're still trying to figure out the best format for the menu. would definitely go back for drinks and snacks in the meantime.

needs much better signage. outdoor seating is nice, but they really need better/nicer chairs; i'm a big guy, but a restaurant chair should be able to hold me without breaking.
