Mexican Food and a Birthday

Hi all! I live on the Upper West Side, and want to have dinner with 6 friends (who mostly live up here too) on a Saturday night, with good guacamole, good entrees, and good margaritas. Any suggestions for a good Mexican dinner for a group of people? Rosa Mexicano in Lincoln Center has always seemed to me to have mediocre food (aside from the guac). Cafe Frida is ok. What about Toloache in the 50s? Thanks!

  1. I've only been to Tolache (midtown) for drinks, but their ceviche and guac bar certainly looked quite tasty.

I can't speak to Tolache's margaritas, but they have a nice selection of tequilas, however.

    1. Toloache is superb. Even though it's rather pricey, the quality is so high I wish I could eat there every day. Be sure to have the cucumber Margarita (forgot exactly what they call it). The quesadilla with huitlacoche and truffle is not to be missed. The black cod and the shrimp are my favorite main courses. Red velvet tres leches cake is the must for dessaert.
