Anyone seen any fresh soft shell crabs on any menus in Philly yet? I know it's kind of early...

I just saw Ippolito's weekly ad and they are offering a soft shell crab sandwich with fries for $6.99.

I saw them in the case at Under the C in the Comcast Center for $6.99 each. Pretty good size.

I saw them too about ten days ago there so I wonder if they are fresh or frozen?

They didn't look very lively, even for being in a refrigerated case, so maybe not fresh. Plus, they were selling them precooked about 2-3 weeks ago, so my guess is frozen.

yea they seem to always have them, so they aren't always fresh. But I do think they carry the fresh ones when they are in season.

No - I haven't seen them at the Terminal or Ippolito's yet either.

Have you ever eaten at Ippolito's? I was thinking of trying that one of these weeks...

I've gotten take out (there are only about 3 stools to eat there). I like their chowders a lot. They had a decent fish taco. I really like their coleslaw (a little vinegar-y which I like). I have had them steam lobsters and taken home some of their appetizers. They will cook anything they have in the case for you - which is nice but I live about 1.5 miles away so I don't usually take advantage of that.
