Has anyone been yet? The menu looks great, and I've read the Pacu Ribs and the Chaufa de Langosta are delicious......

Really?! Probably because Yelpers don't have a clue what izakaya are......

          The dishes look fucking dope.

But I'm still sad he closed the location in the Mercado La Paloma.

        2. re: Dirtywextraolives

I have not been but heard similar complaints. A friend of mine who loves Zarate's cooking said that everything was very good but the portion sizes were smaller than Picca which he already considered small. He said it's the type of place where you can easily spend $100 per person and still leave hungry.

I remember that there were a lot of complaints about portion size at the downtown Mo Chica when they first opened and I think they increased them a little in response. Maybe the same will happen here.

I agree portions are small for the prices. If they charged a little less I wouldn't have a problem with the portion size.

            ty for link

            Looks awesome, and expensive.

Thanks. Very thorough review of the food & cocktails.

            2. Went day after grand opening. Working on my review, but quite good. Haven't tried everything, but loved the paiche tiradito, the calamari relleno, the pacu ribs, the arroz con conchas negras y erizo.

The menu looks beyond fucking dope.

And I have to say, I don't usually feel that way, when I run across a menu.

Peter or others, is it in the same complex as SugarFish, or is it in another mini-mall or storefront ?

                1. re: kevin

It's in the new Stella luxury apartment complex. It's across from the shopping center with the Gelson's, Sports Chalet, and the AMC, on the south side of Maxella.

                  1. re: PeterCC

I love the sound of the calamari relleno....were they nice & tender?

                    1. re: Dirtywextraolives

Yes, the calamari was quite tender, it acted almost like sausage casing for the stuffing (or alternatively, skin for a dumpling).

                  2. Just left from there. In conversation, waiter mentioned that they did increase portion size in response to feed back. Here's pics of the paiche tiraditos and pacu ribs on my first visit day after grand opening (two weeks ago) and pics of the same dishes from today.

                      Nice work.

                      Still taste about the same?

                      1. re: ipsedixit

Yep. The pacu ribs sauce was a bit stronger today, which is not a bad thing, but they're plates were otherwise consistent and excellent.

                      2. re: PeterCC

Interesting. Nice to know they listen. Thanks for reporting back with photos. Looks great.

                        1. re: Dirtywextraolives

I am very happy they listened. The tiraditos portions increased essentially by 33% with an extra piece for the same price. And it definitely wasn't like they took the same amount of fish and instead of slicing it into 3 pieces, they made it into 4 smaller pieces. The sizing of each piece was pretty consistent between visits.

                        2. Going tonight - anymore feedback from Peter, or anyone, on what to order?

The ceviche according to your tastes.

I loved the paiche tiraditos, pacu ribs, blood clam risotto, calamari relleno.

                                1. re: PeterCC

I'll be there tomorrow night! CB, please post your thoughts so I can try out some new things.

Ceviches (the sweet shrimp is just okay though compared to the fishes, but it comes with really good fried heads), tiradito de paiche, pacu ribs, chaufa de langosta, arroz con conchas negras y erizo.

Really loved crudo, chaufa langostina, eponymous paiche, calamari relleno
