Pre-theater dinner date near Oriental Theater?

hungreemonkee Apr 25, 2013 07:28 AM

I'm probably not good at searching the threads so I apologize in advance, but I'm looking for something within walking distance (< 15min) from the Oriental Theater that would be date-friendly and good for dinner before a show (5:30-5:45ish). Do you have any suggestions? The only place I could find was Berghoff, but it doesn't seem like a date place.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I probably picked the wrong day to ask questions--I notice everyone's off to defend the honor of Chicago (in the "Chicago = Overrated?" thread)

Sable's a great little spot that's a quick walk assuming the weather's good. I'm partial to GT Fish and Oyster which is a bit of walk but should still be in your 15-minute zone.

Those are two of my favorites; Atwood Café is a lot closer. Google Maps has walking distances as 0.1 mile Atwood, 0.5 Sable, 0.8 GT Fish.

You can look at the menus on their websites, and you'll find that Sable has contemporary American small plates, GT Fish seafood small plates, Atwood contemporary American:

Trivia note 1: Chef Heather Terhune was the opening executive chef at Atwood and ran it for about ten years, then was transferred to be the opening chef at Sable, where you can see her at the open kitchen every night. (Hotel Burnham, where Atwood Café is, and Hotel Palomar, home of Sable, are part of the same hotel group.)

Trivia note 2: Similarly, the owner-chef at GT Fish is Giuseppe Tentori, who was the opening executive chef at Boka. Both are part of the Boka Restaurant Group.
