What should be the texture of fava beans?

On a recent night out, I ordered a dish that included fava beans. I had never tasted them before. They were crunchy and flavorless. I know that's not right. How should they be?

The texture of favas will vary depending on how they're cleaned and how they are prepared. The reason your favas were crunchy might be because they weren't peeled OR because they were undercooked. Favas should taste almost like edamame -- tender and buttery.

very similar to large lima beans in texture and flavor, they should not be crunchy.
