Microwave popcorn - this side up...
...flip it over and it says "this side down"
I decided not to follow directions so "this side up" was facing down. It popped, but didn't fill the bag and it never got to the rapid popping stage. A slow pop so I left it in longer than I should have, a little burned.
Does anyone know why "this side" needs to be up?
This works super well if you:
1) boil a cup of water first to add moisture to the microwave
2) use a shot of butter-flavoured spray on the kernels
2) figure out how to fold the bag so the steam can release once the bag is 2/3 full of popped corn.
If the steam isn't released, I seem to get hard/ stiff/ yucky popped corn...
In the end, I like my Orville Redenbacher Microwave Popcorn Maker BOWL better:

I have one of those too. I don't eat it anymore though.
One of my staff at work throws a handful of kernels in a bag and pops it daily with no problem, sprays them with butter spray in a yellow bottle and a sprinkle of salt...and is very happy with that. Not tough or hard at all. Maybe she just uses fewer kernels at a time?
