Ibuki- Maida Vale London W9

Ibuki is a small neighbourhood place not far from Maida Vale tube just off Elgin Avenue. The interior is light, bright and simple.
This was my second visit (previously had Buta Shogayaki (Thinly sliced Pork Belly cooked with Teriyaki sauce) , which I enjoyed.

This time around I tried Saba Shio Yaki (Rock salted Grilled Mackerel).
Started with good miso. Very subtle and far less salty than I've had elsewhere. Large leaves of wakame and larger chunks of tofu than is the norm.
The mackerel was perfectly grilled , crisp skin and still moist flesh. It was served simply with rice, pickles and a little mound of potato salad (strangely the potato salad was one of my favourite components of the meal as it is so reminiscent of bento boxes in Japan and I haven't found anywhere else in London that does this).

Service was very good and all in all very enjoyable lunch, I'd be very happy to have this in my neighbourhood.

Kewpie brand mayo on your Japanese potato salad? My Dad is addicted to that.
