Does anybody have an idea where I can find kurozato (Japanese black sugar) in the Chicago area? I have tried Filipino groceries without success and do not know where there are any Japanese markets.

Thanks.

The largest Japanese market in the Chicago area (AFAIK) is Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights. www.mitsuwa.com/tenpo/cica/eindex.html

HMart is a large pan-Asian market with locations in Niles and Naperville. www.hmart.com

Thinks for the tip. Mitsuwa is a real treasure.

Assi is another huge Asian market, very close to H-Mart.

Yes, in Niles, not far from the Niles location of HMart.

There is also a dedicated albeit smaller Japanese store in Wilmette from Akai Hana if you live close to the north shore. If's found in the same strip mall as the restaurant close to the Lake st exit on the Edens Expressway. The address is 3223 W Lake Ave, Wilmette, IL. Phone: 847-256-7010
