Anyone know where--preferably in the Columbia, SC area, but willing to travel--one can find the traditional Sichuan dish, dandan noodles (aka Dandanmian or Ma Jiang Mian)? Thanks you.

Can't really say, but on Decker Blvd from the Columbia Mall going toward I-77 there are more international (asian) restaurants & shops than you can shake a stick at.

    I would try there.

It's a really simple dish to prepare at home. Have you considered DIY? I'm a big fan of Fuschia Dunlops cookbooks.

I have made it before, but sometimes you just want to be able to pick it up, you know?

Have you tried going to Sun Ming and sweet-talking them? I can't imagine they don't know how to prepare it..but maybe they're not set up for it. Other than that I got nothin'. Sorry. Keep us posted.

They have a chili oil and ground meat noodle dish called Jag Jang Mein which is similar, and good. But--and I know this is going to sound really picky--it isn't exactly right and I prefer the version with ground peanuts or sesames mixed in.
