I'm in from NYC - taking my student nieces out for a nice lunch. Would love any suggestions - I know many places close on Monday. Thanks NOLA Chowhounds!

Monday lunch Uptown is tough. St James is great but is basically a cheese shop that makes sandwiches plus cheese and charcuterie plates - ideal if that is what you're looking for but perhaps not a special treat for students. The only nicer restaurant I know that would be open Uptown is the Flaming Torch which I believe most people like but I've never been to myself. Both of these places are a bit over a mile from Tulane - a short drive but a long walk particularly as the weather gets hotter.

Also, if you do have a car and a bit of time, the CBD and Warehouse District really aren't that long a drive, and almost everywhere down there - Herbsaint, Cochon, Domenica, Mila, etc. - will be open.

    2. If by nice you mean good food, then try Cowbell: http://www.cowbell-nola.com/
Open on Mondays. Casual, but very tasty. Oak St near the levee....

Or go up Freret St to High Hat: http://www.highhatcafe.com/

Very near High Hat is Wayfare: http://www.wayfarenola.com/
