I'm looking for a unique restaurant to visit for my anniversary. I told my wife I would take her somewhere unusual and have no idea where to go. Any ideas? ?? No specific type of food in mind. Just want to try a place that has obscure offferings.

Based only on your description, and without any personal experience there, The Lion's Share might be perfect.

Not sure what qualifies as unusual for you, but most unusual places are holes in the wall, which is not suitable for an Anniversary.

The only place I can think of that can probably be a special atmosphere while still serving "unique food" is Muzita Abyssinian Bistro

hole in the wall places are fine with me. we watch a lot of shows like bizarre foods and the like. normally we eat the usual fair but would like to try places that offer different meats (elk, boar, ect) or something like that.

Que Huong. Excellent Vietnamese including wild boar, snails, elk and extremely excellent fish sauce chicken wings.

4134 University Avenue San DIego 92105 (behind the Burger King)

Well, maybe not exactly what you had in mind, but you said "somewhere unusual" then how about a picnic at the park in Balboa?

Pick up some banh mi sandwiches at K Sandwiches, some Japanese snack at either Mitsuwa or Nijiya, some pastries or dessert (egg tarts!) at Ranch 99 or Pangea, then some libations at Bine and Vine or whatever else you need at Olive Tree

You know, I love that place, but I just hesitate in recommending it because the atmo is so casual, almost a bit divey.

never had Russian food so that is def different and right down the street from me so I will have to take a trip here too.

You told your wife you'd take her somewhere unusual with no back up plan..ha ha ha..typical guy.

We are here to save your ass..

First of all, have you been married a lot of years or we talking less than 10?
Obscure offerings...that can mean a myriad of things.

My thoughts..thinking for your wife's sake.

Aqui es Texcoco in Chula Vista..obscure but excellent
Mistral at Loew's and do that gondola cruise
Water taxi over from Gaslamp to Coronado and have dinner at Candelas or Il Fornaio
Grant Grill at the US Grant Hotel and then Tavern Bowl in East Village..stay at US Grant
Hacienda de Vega..minutes from downtown... ; ) for RB
Picnic with Water's Fine Foods and head out to LJ Scripps Park.
Glider Port for tandem hangliding and then AR Valentien at the Lodge at Torrey Pines
              Lions Share
Ballon ride in RSF and then dinner and drinks at the Pony Room at the Rancho Valencia Resort..

Have fun and treasure your wife.

Wa Dining Okan - classy enough and I'm sure you could find a bunch of new offerings to try.
