Substitute for Nut Tree in Vacaville

We will be in California in May and want to meet some friends midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. In the old days our automatic choice would have been the Nut Tree in Vacaville. Alas, it is no more. What are some good places mid way between these two cities?

We haven’t been in a few years, but our answer to this problem was the Buckhorn Steakhouse 12 miles up the 505 freeway in Winters. It had excellent food with good drinks. The menu still looks good, but I qualify my suggestion because I see they have started franchising a thing called the Buckhorn Grill. I tried the one in Sacramento and disappointing would not begin to describe it on so many levels. I do believe the Buckhorn Steakhouse in Winters is still good.

This looks wonderful! Steaks are right up our alley. Thanks so much for responding.

The Amicis pizza at the Nut Tree is a great place. Also in Vacaville is Hisu, a Sushi boat and teppani.place

Pure Grain Bakery & Café in downtown Vacaville is a good choice. They bake wonderful breads and pastries and serve an excellent selection of sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch.

And here's a link to their sandwich order form:
