Update to Policy for Bloggers and Journalists

Blog linking remains a controversial topic on Chowhound. We get complaints from people who don't like blog links and complaints from bloggers who want to participate in the conversation and sometimes include links to their own blogs as part of the discussion.

We have been using a fairly strict standard -- posters could only link to specific blog entries for additional pictures, and only if they included the entire text of the blog entry in their post -- that hasn't been all that friendly to bloggers. But many passionate food lovers are also food bloggers, and we want them to feel welcome in the community.

We've updated our guidelines at http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/3676...

  1. By linking to the chowhound site is a blogger giving up their copyright to their material?

Linking to your blog from Chowhound has no effect on the copyright of your blog entry.

In terms of the words/photos you actually post on Chowhound, you retain the copyright, but you grant us a very broad license to also use those words/photos as necessary.
