Neon Relish & Vienna Sausages

We'll be visiting Chicago later on this week and want to bring home some neon relish and Vienna sausages. Are there specific places to get them, or places to get ones that are known for their quality?

  1. The "Vienna hot dog" is a recognized brand, not a variety of hot dog. Most local grocers sell them. The ones with the natural casing are considered superior. Most local groceries also stock some variety of green relish. Vienna packages their own, but they're all essentially the same.

Learn something new every day. I thought they were a style (mostly because everything else is a 'style' i.e. poppy seed, 'neon', sport pepper, etc..)

      Thanks for your help!

That's correct. The company's name is Vienna Beef. They first made their hot dogs for the world's fair here in 1893. You can use their website at to buy products to be shipped to you as well as to locate stores that sell them (although as ferret notes, you can find them in most supermarkets in the Chicago area).

Ferret is right. You can find anything for a Chicago dog in a grocery store (I get mine at Dominick's). I always have jars of relish and sport peppers in my fridge.
