Has anyone tried them for brunch? Is it a nice experience? How would kids do?

  1. I haven't been but now that I've looked at their brunch menu http://www.cookscountyrestaurant.com/... I am completely intrigued by their braised grass fed beef hash and roasted potatoes with a sunny side up egg (I'd probably pay them to throw one more egg on there).

    1. It's nice if service, portion size, time is unimportant to you. Food's generally ok, but I'll never go back since the service is so atrociously amateur for the price.

Are your comments directed toward brunch, or the restaurant in general?
I have never had a problem with any of your issues at dinner time, yet have never tried their brunch.

Yes, now that I think back on it, dinner was better(timing and service-wise at least). But every single brunch there that I've been to has been problematic.

Went for dinner last weekend - service was good - in fact more than good - criticism is that we could not see the food on our plates - one tiny votive candle on the table. Food was excellent and good size portions just wish I could have seen more.

        2. Only you know how your kids would do, but from multiple experiences during that time span, they seem to like kids, and they promote a family experience.

Saturday brunch is the new Sunday brunch, and during morning time (say 10:30 AM), the room is relatively quiet & pleasant. Food takes a bit to arrive, so bring appropriate distractions, or order the $$$ pastry basket.

          Just don't order the burger.

Agree on all counts. My kids did fine, but like you say, the wait is long. The pastries are fantastic as is the puffy pancake. Hash is also great.

          2. I was underwhelmed but the portion/price ratio.

I wouldn't bring my daughter there unless it was during off eating hours -- they were slammed at Sunday brunch and it felt a tad uncomfortable IMO.
