Where to eat before a Heat game

I saw a discussion about this on a previous thread but it didn't have much info. We're heading down from Broward this weekend for a game. Getting bored with Bayside and it'll be very crowded since it's a playoff game. Any ideas? I know my hubby is pulling for Versailles which seems to only be 5 miles away. Anything closer?

  1. It doesn't take long to get bored with Bayside....

We usually grab a Cuban sandwich at the Latin American window and some 3 dollar beers but I know the crowd for a playoff game will be huge. Can't do chilis or Bubba Gump. Yuck!

    2. If you don't want to make 2 stops, I'd go to Sparky's Roadside BBQ which is just off Biscayne Blvd. on NE 1st St. and walking distance to the arena. If you want something more posh, you can go to DB Bistro in the Marriott Marquis, or Area 31 or Zuma in the Epic.

Hoping to do just one stop. Te only things I've seen around there are at bayside or Miss Yip's which I heard wasn't too great.

      2. I had a similar inquiry that I posted about a year ago, and based on some of the replies, we ate at City Hall and enjoyed it with the added bonus that you can park there for free and walk to the arena after you've eaten/drank,

        1. I'd do Nemesis Bistro. Or you can go a bit further south to Momi Ramen.

Nemesis is a very good suggestion.

          2. Sparky's Roadside BBQ is a great choice.....They're serving very good BBQ there and the prices are right.....Would also recommend Brother Jimmy's BBQ too....Their smoked wings, brisket sliders and ribs are all very, very good......I eat at the bar and the service has always been solid......Low happy hour food and drink prices there.....

Is Brother Jimmy's in walking distance?

              1. re: Jenaclaree

30 minute walk. Sparky's is better and much closer.

            2. +1 for db Bistro Moderne, who has a special "pre-Heat" prix fixe menu beginning Saturday, April 20 from 5:30-7:30 for $39.

Pair that with some happy hour drinks (stars at 5pm at the bar) and even I would sit through a sporting event!

I also got an email for mother's day 3-course brunch there for $55 ($30 for kids under 10), which is a much better deal than I'll have access to in Palm Beach that weekend.

              1. SoBe Chower.....have you eaten BBQ at Brother Jimmy's? Just curious to know...

Yes, I have and I thought it was very mediocre. My brother lives in the Brickell area, has eaten there a few times and he likes it less than I do.

We are not BBQ expers, but neither of us are big fans.

                2. Well...as long as you've actually eaten there....then your opinion is valid....

I like Sparky's...alot....And I've been to BroJimmy's 4 times....and have had very good BBQ at both places.....Both actually put their meat on smokers...with dry rubs....and get solid results....I like the ribs more at Sparky's....The smoked chicken wings and brisket sliders at BroJimmy's are both outstanding.....My only dart at BroJimmy's is they didn't have pepper sauce to go on their collards....and that's downright blasphemous...Both are better than Myron Mixon's Pride & Joy.....and that's a shame because you want to like P & J....but the product just isn't there....

I'm a BBQ Freak-A-Zoid....no doubt....and have my own BBQ business in Ft. Pierce....and fully realize how difficult serving consistent BBQ is on a commercial level....And it AIN'T easy.....

On a slightly related note... if you are ever in Savannah, Georgia, be sure to check out Wiley's Championship BBQ. I was there Saturday and it was just ridiculous.

In all fairness to Brother Jimmy's I've only been once and I've been to Sparky's several times.

                    2. I go to Georgia a couple of times per year.....My wife is from the Waycross area.....(75 miles north of Jax)....I will try Wiley's next time I'm up that way......

                      1. Pollos y Jarras is a great casual, Peruvian choice and walking distance. Versailles is much more than 5 minutes.

                        1. I am always happy after a brisket sandwich and banana pudding at Sparky's!!!
