California Extra Virgin Olive Oil

For various reasons, including illegal mixing scandal in Europe, and desire to buy more locally I am considering switching from the organic Montebello EVO from Italy that I buy at the Skagit Valley Coop to a high quality organic California brand. Suggestions?

  1. Rancho Olivos just won a couple of medals for their olive oils. They're in the Central Coast area, and you can order online. It's now all I use!

    1. For cooking I like the everyday olive oil by California Olive Ranch, it's fine for salads also. For finishing I still like a good quality Italian olive oil but you have to trust your source.

I'm a fan of California Olive Ranch, too, and they seem to have a good reputation. I'm especially partial to their "Arbequina" variety.

I use the every day olive for, guess what, every day use (cooking, etc.). When using in a salad, ie: oil & vinegar, or finishing, I use Arbequina. Great company, great olive oil.

I just heard about this on the America's Test Kitchen Radio show and likely will buy it when my current bottle runs out.

            2. If you have a Trader Joe's near your, their California Estate Olive Oil is very good. Also a great value.
