Carry-out, west of DC off I-66?

We are doing a day trip to Front Royal tomorrow, and are looking for good subs or other carry-out food suitable for a picnic. Either in Front Royal proper, or out 66 on the way there from Arlington. Any ideas?

We'd need something where non-meat-eaters could find at least something to pick from.

How far off of 66 are you willing to go and might you have a cooler if you buy close in then drive out?

If all else fails, there's the Wegmans in Fairfax.

I know I'm too late for the OP, but the Gainesville Wegmans would be a good choice too -- very close to 66.

Wegmans has both traditional subs, which are very good and quite large, as well as nice sandwiches on baguettes., in addition to lots of other good stuff for picnics.

I haven't been in a while in Front Royal but try:

Chefs are from Inn at Little Washington and they do a nice gourmet take out picnic lunch.

Santini's in Oakton is a pretty quick hop off & on at the Chain Bridge Rd. exit. Their eggplant parm sub (I get it with mushrooms added) is pretty good. It's non-meat, but I couldn't say with certainty if it's vegetarian. Overall, it is a pretty meat-heavy place, though, so I'm not sure that would work for you.

I also like Italian Gourmet (Nutley exit) in Vienna. They have a really nice roasted vegetable sandwich.
