Fish Markets in New Bedford

Not sure if New Bedford is Boston board or S. New England board, but I'll be down there next week, and am looking for a good fish market for fresh, local, whole fish. Ideas?

  1. Kyler's Seafood. Don't bother with anywhere else. Just off the highway (Coggelshall exit maybe? It's exit 16 heading east on I195) and is a retail arm of a big seafood processor. VERY fresh, Huge selection. great pricing. One of the better fish mongers you'll find anywhere.

    1. New Bedford Fisherman's Market is the place I go to for my seafood. Apparently they have their own day boat fleet as a source of their seafood. Great prices and I have always been satisfied with what I got there. I work with several people that also use Kyler's. I've tried them a couple of times for steamers and have been disappointed both times unfortunately.

Fisherman's Market is the one I was thinking of. We ate at Fathoms Bar and Grill on Pope's Island and had some really good seafood there. Turns out the restaurant is owned by Oceans Fleet Fisheries which also owns the market. If they can't have fresh seafood they need to find a new line of work.

Thanks for the tip. Will give them a try next time I'm in the area.

          1. One other point about New Bedford Fisherman's Market. Check their hours before you go.

Great advice. Their web site shows Thur, Fri, Sat 9-7. Fortunately I'll be there on Thursday.
