Padrecito, SF

Has anyone been to this newish Mexican spot just off Haight? The tacos sound interesting and they have two versions of chilaquiles, both non-standard.

  1. I'll try to get over there. Duck carnitas sounds good to me.

    1. We were looking forward to trying it this coming Sunday, but for reasons that still remain unclear, they called a couple of dayt ago and told us they were cancelling our reservation. Absent some good explanation, I'm not inclined to spend my money there.

      1. not newish anymore, but I went last night for the first time. loved, unreservedly. well, the food, for sure. the restaurant was very very noisy (7:30 p.m. on a Sunday night = packed), even though we sat upstairs, and it's a little pricey for Mexican food, but it's upscale Mexican food, and everything I tasted was terrific: pork belly tacos, quesadilla, enchilada roja, and sopes de chilmole, chips and guac. and they have my new favorite cocktail: La Copa Verde: mescal, chipotle powder, cilantro (pureed), and lime. Smoky heaven. All the food had very distinct flavors, the hot sauces that came with the chips were great, different levels of heat. Really wish this place was in the Mission, as for me, it's better than anything we have for Mexican. service was good too. I think you will love it, grayelf. (unless I missed it and you've already been?)

          Wow, thanks, mc! Nope, still haven't made it. But now I really want to. It's ticking a lot of boxes, innit? It's a desert for Mexican in Vancouver so we always enjoy what we get in the States, but Padrecito sounds a cut above.

            i'll say. i didn't even read the menu re the quesadilla. friend ordered it: squash blossoms, sweet corn, roasted poblano y dry jack; salsa molcajete. so good! fat, crispy on the outside, melty on the inside. i can't wait to go back.

            I wonder why you are alowed to say how noisy it was but my brief note on the noise level at La Ciccia has been removed 5 or 6 times.I merely wanted to warn prospective diners.

                you keep saying it was removed but it never was. everyone else could still see all of your posts. all 6 or 7 or 8 times you reiterated how noisy that place was. (though i never thought it was.)

                  Actually, I replied in the original thread that it hasn't been removed and within the last couple of hours, stanbee's original post and all of the posts telling him it hasn't been removed has been removed.

                    Stanbee's original post is still there as of the time of this post. The subsequent posts wondering why it was removed have been removed.

                I live a few blocks from there, and it is always packed around dinner time. You may get a spot at the bar, which does serve the entire menu. But I'm not a fan of the noise and the drunk people. Very hipster, at least at the bar, not my cup of tea. Just FYI.

                  yeah, i was there, saw the hipsterishness. not so much of an issue upstairs. and i live in the mission, so i'm kinda used to it. but the food outweighed everything for me.

                    They were able to make a Red Hook for me with oat whiskey, which was good (although the bartender was grumpy about it)
