Now that Kastoori (the vegetarian restaurant in tooting) is no more. I wonder i the Thanki brothers will open a new place - it was rumoured that they would but have not heard anything. Anyone have any news?
It was my favourite restaurant.

    None, I'm afraid.

His LinkedIn account mentioned "Ashapura Caterers" but Google on that company name yielded no results:

Have you tried Chennai Dosa? It's another vegetarian spot which I'm told was quite good.

BTW, if you're interested, our resident "Indian-food-in-London" expert, JFores, is organizing another Chowdown - this time at Thattukada, a Keralan spot in East Ham, tomorrow evening. Do email me at pyklyeoh@gmail.com if you're interested to join in.

Have you been to both the East Ham and the Tooting branch?
I went to the East Ham branch and wasn't that impressed.
Admitidly I had the kottu rather than dosa (I was on a bit of a kottu thing having just got back from Sri Lanka).

I know they have a branch in Wembley but if I'm up that way I normally head to Saravanaa Bhavan.

I've been a number of times to the Tooting branch and I rate their dosas. As you say though, they're not that great for kottu. For kottu in Tooting, I prefer Dosa 'n Chutney.

It was one of my family's favourites too. I partcularly enjoyed the tomato curry and the wonderful lassis. But no, I don't know what the Thanki family did either.
