Mushroom Soup Recipe from Bon Appetite Magazine

I lost the recipe of a great mushroom soup found in Bon Appetite Magazine between 1975 - 1980. I must have thrown the magazine out but would love to locate the recipe once again. Does anyone still have a stash of old magazines that it might be in?? Thanks!

      1. I don't know about the Bon Appetite magazine, but I made gingershelly's cream of mushroom soup last night and it was fantastic. I used Sherry instead of Brandy and it was still fabulous. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8970...

        1. Building on boyzoma and MidwesternerTT's replies, I doubt that we'll be able to find the exact recipe you're looking for but I'd bet that if you describe it well enough, with an emphasis on what you loved about it, the Chowhounds can make you a recipe that puts the original to shame

          Some key questions: do you remember the kind of mushrooms? Was it creamy or stocky or what? Was it spicy or herb-y or were the mushrooms the star? Was there a meat or other umami source like sardines or all vegetables? If you tell us as much as you can about the soup you remembered I bet the hounds can equal or surpass the original recipe.

            Thanks for your reply! As I recall, it had a lot of mushroom flavor. I think it only used 1 or 2 kinds of mushrooms- nothing exotic. I think there was a broth, some cream, no other veggies or meat, there was sherry or something like that. I don't recall adding vegetables but maybe a little potatoe? It was not spicy or too savory tasting from herbs. That is all I can remember- I just remember we loved it and I made it alot for a period of time. If you have a wonderful recipe that you love I would very much appreciate trying it! Thanks for your help. My husband will be delighted if I can find another really great mushroom soup recipe- he loved it!

              there is also a creamy mushroom soup on the site that is good, but I like this one for the sheer mushroominess of it.

Can't help you finding the original, but I love my own mushroom soup, which is simply sauteed mushrooms in butter until quite brown with a lot of fond in the pan, with chicken broth, scallions, a little fresh thyme, ground pepper and heavy cream. All to taste, and it is wonderful. It also likes a little sherry if you have some around.
