Anyone know anything about Abruzzo?

We're going to be spending a week there in July -- hopefully closer to the shore. Any great places we should stop to eat would be appreciated (more casual as we have young kids and don't like the fancy stuff much anyway.)

Also, if you happen to know Abruzzo well and would be willing to chat off board to suggest towns we could stay in, I would be ever so grateful. I know we aren't supposed to use this board that way, but I find there are so many knowledgable world travelers, natives and ex-pats on this board and I don't know how else to reach you.

Abruzzo is not only beautiful, the food and people are great too! We stayed for a few weeks in an apartment a few miles from Sulmona, ( Village of Torre del Nolfi). Sulmona has a Roman Aquaduct running through the middle of the town, and Sulmona is the home of "confetti" the colorful coated almonds. Our favorite restaurant was/is" Locanda Gino", some of the best regional dishes are available there.

In addition, the weekly market has excellent local veg and fruit. Scanno is a short drive and worth a day trip. Pescara is also a moderate drive, but for my tastes it is a little too crowded/resorty/ and a bit run down at the heels.
L'Aquila was a majestic very well preserved town of many examples of archeticture from the 1920's, sadly now it is partially destroyed after the earthquake of 2009, and many residents are still in temporary housing.
