Lunch in Greenport

lenorel57 Apr 11, 2013 01:55 PM

We are going to Greenport in a couple of weeks for the day. We eat in Noahs because it's very good and one of the few restaurants open for lunch on Thursday. Is there any other restaurant we should try? We leave before dinner.

Is Catapano Farm open? Any farm stands open on either road? We usually go out on 25 and back on 48. (or vice verse) We're coming from Nassau county.

I *think* Catapano is open (in the past they'd open in April) but best to call and check:

I read that they are but I'd call first if you aren't going to be going by the farm. There's another goat/dairy farm in Aquebogue, Goodale Farms, and it's on the Main Rd., north side, just east of Route 105. Just a little further is the only farm stand I have seen open on the Main Rd., Bayview Farms, on the right. I haven't been east on the Main Rd. further than Cutchogue in the last week or so but most farm stands out here don't usually open for anything other than plants until May 1st. Brieremere Farms has their outdoor farm stand open on the North Rd., they have had heirloom and green house tomatoes lately that are great for this time of year.
And Noah's will probably be your best bet, although Blue Canoe (was The Chowder Pot for years) is open 7 days all year for lunch and dinner and has one of the best lobster rolls around. In nice weather the deck is great, overlooks the Shelter Island Ferry, can't get any closer to the water.
Sounds like you know your way around out here but just for more info you might want to check out the recent post about A Lure's opening weekend, lots of us chimed in with our favorite North Fork places. Good Luck!

I did read it and thanks for the info. We usually go out on Thurs. rather than the weekend. We used to go on Wed.; but half the places are closed.

I usually see stands opening for Easter, at least with asparagus and spinach, but this year's funky weather seems to be messing with the schedule.

We love Bruce's Cheese Emporium and Cafe for breakfast or lunch.
Right now they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday but they will add Thursday soon.
Also, Blue Canoe is fabulous and a great outside eating experience if the weather is nice.
If you want low key creative Mexican try Lucharito's
Hellenic has been a long time favorite too. Excellent grilled fish.

I love the grilled and roasted meats and fish at Hellenic, but my husband always gets the souvlaki that's served on a bed of French fries, lol!

Well I just found out some exciting news. Cavaniola Cheese is open in Greenport. So if no farm stands (and all I saw yesterday, besides Bayview which only had a couple of items, were a few signs saying Open May 1, don't know your exact dates) maybe go check out some world class cheese instead?

Oh and if you're coming out this weekend, don't forget the food truck extravaganza at Tangers Mall.

I would LOVE to come out for that, but unfortunately it is a busy weekend here.

We never stop at Tangers. There are so many more interesting places and I'm not a good outlet shopper.

I live two minutes away and I go maybe once a year, for Christmas shopping. Bu the food truck angle appeals to me, I've only mostly heard of it on the West Coast.

Forgot to say we will definitely stop for cheese. Maybe we'll go out after May 1. We were going today but rain is predicted.
