Whole Foods Open in Brookline
The Whole Foods on Beacon St. is open. Very nice space but it is still a Whole Foods. An improvement over the Johnny's though I liked Johnny's for what it was. But after visiting Bees Knees in Fort Point Channel, I'm asking why can't we have one of those?
I went to Bees Knees and was pretty disappointed. There weren't any prepared dishes (they said they might eventually have them)and their cheese section, although a good variety, was small and doesn't have as large a selection as Whole Foods. It also looked like a store focused on carrying the full line of Stonewall Kitchen products at a premium. I was there last week and got a juice drink at the front counter. The counter person was on the phone for a good 2-3 minutes while I waited to be helped. I even walked away to get a bread and she was still on the phone when I got back. It didn't phase her that I was waiting to be helped. Not a good 1st impression. I'll give it a little while before trying it again. I have to add that the juice drink they made was very good.
I had the same thought about Stonewall -- I want to see things here that I can't get at the Wrentham Outlets. That said, their sandwich menu looks pretty good, and I appreciate having the variety of things they offer available in the area. The selection of artisinal bacon looks particularly promising.
i happened to be in there today, didn't realize it was the opening but that explains why there were so many people just standing around.
The store seems very small with a big emphasis on prepared foods, like the one at MGH only smaller footprint. I'm sure it will be nice for the neighborhood but I don't think I'd stop in to look for a specific item if i'm passing through the area.
