Los Verdes, Sunnyside
I just ate at Los Verdes, a Florida chain that opened up on Greenpoint ave.
First off, the seats were dirty and I had to wipe them down. Ordered from the menu, and another guy brings a condiment rack that holds 5? slightly smaller than quart size squeeze bottles and places it right between me and my eating partner. None of them were labeled.
I had the arepa with Columbia sausage and the famed hot dogs. This is what they are known for. That and the hamburgers with every kind of protein you can think of stacked on a fluffy bun and some over sized quesadillas. This place is supposed to be for youngsters after a night of drinking. Portion sizes are...huge. Granted, I was there in the middle of the day. . . and I hadn't been drinking.
The hot dog dish was a pair of boiled hot dogs placed on a bed of mozzarella cheese melted on a bun, and whole thing is topped with crumbled up potato chips that looked like pancko(they put this on everything), and bacon. It's then dressed with a horizontal drizzle of what I thought was Pink sauce. It was impossible to eat with your hands, and the plastic knives and forks didn't really cut through the gummy now cold mozzarella. The napkins were almost like single ply toilet paper. I should also mention that they serve water in a plastic cup with lids (the kind you get iced coffee in) and all the "china" is plastic or white foam plates. For that reason alone I'll never go back.
The arepas were tasteless, the columbian chorizo was dry, and I almost broke a tooth on a piece of bone. The condiments were mayo blended up with garlic, or cucumbers, and the "pink" sauce was mayo and ketchup.
The food was awful, and feel like I have a brick in my gut and I spit it with someone. $16 bucks bought me pain for the next 5 hours. My suggestion would be to skip this place altogether unless your 24 and drink heavily on weekends. They close at 3:00 am. I personally would rather have a slice of average pizza instead. There are so many other choices around for hangover food that I can't see why anybody would go to Los Verdes or Las Mierdas. . .
