A comfy place for cocktails (early evening) with a 7YO in tow
Heading to NYC for one of our "a few times a year" visits and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a place for an early evening (5:30 - 7, say) drink and maybe food with our (perfectly well-behaved, no lie) daughter in tow. In Boston where we live, we have taken her to the Oak Bar and the like with no issue.
I'm thinking a hotel bar is likely best as they are used to families but I'm open to anything really. We'll be staying around 34th and Lexington but are happy to travel a bit if need be.
You can have a cocktail or two and snacks in the Ace Hotel lobby bar at 29th and Broadway. Comfy couches and chairs too, so you don't have to sit at the actual bar.
Silverleaf Tavern (Park and 38th) adjoins the 70 Park Avenue Hotel. They are usually not terribly crowded and noisy in the early evening and have a bar menu. There are tables -- not just the bar.
Three places come to mind:
Salvation Taco on E 39. Great drinks and lite bites. Interesting non alcohol drinks too. It's got a nice fun vibe and is visually stimulating for your daughter. They are connected to the Pod Hotel lobby so there is room for your daughter to wander if she gets bored.
Rare on E 37 has an area for drinks that would work.
El Rio Grande if the weather is nice. They have a fabulous patio area for drinks and appetizers. Try the steak nachos and guacamole, fabulous.
Avoid El Rio Grande patio with a child as at that time it will be a huge happy hour scene of young professionals. Crowded, loud, drunken. Maybe the inside dining room will be ok, but its food and drinks are mediocre at best.
With spring here, any outdoor space in that area will be the same.
