Kosher spices

I am invited to an engagement party for a kosher couple and would like to get them a variety of spices as a gift. I was thinking or ordering them from Penzys. Are there any issues or laws that I should be aware of.
Please educate the uneducated.
Thanks so much.

For the observant generally, spices other than in natural whole form need some level of certification. Penzey's is not certified but The Spice House (which shares Penzey's lineage) location in Milwaukee is.

What a lovely gift! Thank you for being so thoughtful, and for checking out the issue.

Whole spices do not require any kosher certification at all, and I've bought them from Penzeys myself. Spice mixes require certification, which Penzey's doesn't have. You might want to try The Spice House, as most of their blends are kosher-certified; make sure to request that they pack/ship from their kosher-certified Milwaukee branch in the Special Instructions area of their order form: http://www.thespicehouse.com/info/kos...
