Dim Sum Sticky Rice Help
I live in an area where I'm 500 miles from the nearest Dim Sum restaurants s I'd like to attempt making some of our faves at home. I an unable to source lotus leaves locally but I can get banana leaves. Has anyone had experience making this dish with banana leaves instead of the lotus leaves and have had good results?
Of course you could use Banana Leaves but it is a very different flavor grassy and lemony rather than the Floral earthy smell of Lotus Leaves. You could just wrap it in Parchment for the steaming.
Are you making Lo mai gai 糯米雞 ?
You could make Lo Mai Fan 糯米饭 which is delicious and does not need the Lotus Leaves
Thanks for the reply, I know I can order them online but I was hoping to whip some up tonight with what I have on hand which is banana leaves. I do know that they would give off a different flavor than the lotus leaves but I was hoping that someone who has tried both would be able to give me an idea of how different of a flavor it would be. I'll give it a shot anyway
