Early family breakfast near LAX

  • 15
  • Share

My family and I will be flying into LAX from the east coast of Canada. We get in fairly late, and will be crashing at the Sheraton airport hotel. Given the time difference, we'll likely be up bright-and-early looking for a great breakfast. Kids are 7 & 9, but adventurous eaters. Mexican would be awesome, but we will do whatever is best. We will have a rental car.

Most specific request ever....

Thanks!

  1. Most breakfast places around LA open at 7AM. Pann's is the default place to go around LAX - less than 10 minutes from your hotel by car in the AM. Uncle Bill's in Manhattan Beach and The Original Pancake House in south Redondo Beach are further - 15 and 25 minutes respectively for opening breakfast service.

I'm not familiar with Mexican breakfast choices around LAX, but Pepy's Galley - a cafe attached to Mar Vista Bowl (bowling alley) is about 15 minutes away.

+ 1 for Pann's fried chicken & waffles and Uncle Bill's bacon & cheddar French toast or waffles.

Also like North End Cafe in manhattan beach.

Or Martha's 22nd St Grill, right on the sand in Hermosa Beach

Uncle Bill's opens at 6am during the week & 7am on weekends. Martha's 22ndSt Grill opens at 7am daily. North End Cafe (seen on TV's Dinners, Drive-ins & Dives twice) at 8am. Expect a wait at all 3 on weekends.

    2. If you want a Mexican breakfast then about 3.5 miles, straight south of LAX down Sepulveda Blvd. you would probably like Sion's. It's actually a cute little place that, from the outside reminds me of Johnnies Pastrami in Culver City.

Sion's has always opened at 8 AM, but check if you decide to go because things change. Pann's definitely opens at 7 AM. In Manhattan Beach there is also the Kettle http://www.thekettle.net/ which I like for breakfast and they are open 24/7/365.

Sion's salsa is on the mild side, but they're generally good.

      2. I'm not sure where the Sheraton is - can you please give an address? There's a good-enough really iconic 50's family restaurant (still owned by the third generation family) on the corner of Jefferson and Sepulveda called Dinah's. They have good german apple pancakes and a pretty large variety of other "specialty" pancakes. It's none of it fantabulously delicious, but it's a fun place to go and I really think your kids would enjoy it as well as anything else. Personally, I'm no fan of Pepy's at all thought they do have a couple Mexican 'breakfast'-y specialties that others like (e.g. machaca). It's on Venice Blvd at Grandview in the bowling alley there. Both are north of LAX; Dinah's about 6 min drive from LAX, Pepy's closer to 15m away. I recommend Dinah's.

What happened to the mapping feature on Chowhound?

If you're going to go down to Manhattan Beach as another suggested, I think the breakfasts at Good Stuff are pretty good. That's about 15m from LAX to the south. Possibly further?

Pepy's chilaquiles are definitely worthy of a 15-minute drive.

Might as well throw in another favorite of mine for weekend breakfast, Ronnie's Diner, (about 4.5 miles from your hotel and maybe 10 minutes that time of the morning on the weekend and a bit longer during the week). I'm in an absolute fixation phase with their chorizo bowl http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ronnie... (while this photo in captioned "chorizo dip" this is the chorizo bowl) currently and they open at 7:30 AM for breakfast 7 days a week. http://www.yelp.com/biz/ronnies-diner...

Good Stuff Manhattan Beach has been closed for a while.

              really? Sorry!!

There is still a Good Stuff in El Segundo, and they serve the same menu. Even closer to the Sheraton...

            2. Metro Cafe is nearby, just east of the corner of Sepulveda & Washington in Culver City (next to Travelodge). Really good fried banana pancakes. Excellent Serbian food available as well (yes, Serbian - Welcome to L.A.)...

Oh, that's a good idea ... it really is a good restaurant. About 10 min north of LAX.

              2. About a 10 minute drive from your hotel, is Licha's.

A little Mexican joint of a restaurant tucked away in a little nook of a cranny.

Serves breakfast and is Mexican. In your book, that would be a win-win.

(Surprisingly, it's right next to a Taco Bell!)
