Should we be able to talk about weed?

LOCKED DISCUSSION

Yesterday, I posted a new thread about cooking with pot. It was eventually deleted and the Mods were kind enough to send me an e-mail explaining that their lawyers have advised them that such topics are unacceptable. I appreciate that they took the time to notify me, but, I spose I'm dumb, 'cause I just don't understand.

Frankly, as a former "white shoe" lawyer, I really don't get it. There is absolutely no way that any liability could be ascribed to the Site based upon a handful of us sharing recipes. Moreover, since Colorado and Washington have made recreational use legal and several other States permit medical use (not to mention places in Europe that have realized that marijuana is not a threat - we are an international community after all), why can we not, as such a community, discuss this herb as an ingredient? If I can go into a store and buy it, why can't I ask other 'hounds how best to cook with it. Sh*t, there are three boards devoted solely to booze.

In the interim, I promise to not discuss using marijuana in the things I cook. I was just hopin' that others take a moment to consider the issue. And, to make it clear, I dig this Site. I dig food and drink. I've been here for quite a while and intend to continue sharing ideas with all of you. I just wondered if I'm the only one who feels this way or if anyone had some other thoughts?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention this article that appeared in the Huffington Post about a new Cannabis Cupcake cookbook: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04... Surely, Arianna's folks don't know more about food than we do?

  1. it's their site, so they get to make the rules.

If they're uncomfortable hosting discussions about cooking with pot, then it's their option to delete them.

I'm pretty sure there's a discussion forum about cooking with pot out there somewhere-- if not, it would be the only topic in anyone's imagination that doesn't have its own forum.

I assumed that there would be other forums, but I, honestly, don't care about 'em. I mean, I could post my thoughts about local restauramts on Yelp if I chose to do so. I don't 'cause I'm a 'hound. I wanna be able to "talk" with my friends and fellow 'hounds about stuff. I'm not looking to engage someone about how powerful their dope is, I wanna see what fellow food geeks do with this "new" ingredient.

I created this thread to solicit opinions from other members of the community. I'd like to hear some, even if they are just "sounds cool" or "you're an idiot".

Okay, I think it's a bad idea. Best of intentions still can't keep threads from running off topic, hitting truly heated political hot buttons or hitting that darn Recommend button...

If the Mods explained why to you based on your OP, that's gonna be good enough for me.

You'll get more than you bargained for but yes, cooking forums & communities are all over the Net.

At bottom, I'm willin' to live with whatever the decision is, but this community has shaped the Site over time (There's a "Vegan" board or whatever, now - somehow, that, to me, seems brutally inconsistent with the original manifesto.) I'm just curious what others think about the idea.

      2. There are policies we've changed because of user input, but those were not policies based on advice from our Legal department. I'm sorry, but there's really no room for movement here. I'm going to lock this up now.
