new Mexican restaurant - Zaratez Mexicatessen

Looks like former food truck/farmer's market stall Zaratez Mexicatessen owner Paul Zarate finally found a brick-and-mortar space to set up shop. Not quite open yet, but he's been posting pics of his renovation work on twitter. Looks like a small space though, don't think he can fit many tables? Probably take-out mostly. Seems he has decided to offer a limited menu, pop-up style in his space, starting at 6 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through April 20. Because KMan has not posted his opinion (I certainly hope he hasn't died of a broken heart, considering what I know about what he ate.), I'll put in my 2 cents, for what it is worth; disappointing, finely chopped, under-spiced meats and underwhelming sauces. Typical, boring, Mexican food for Hawai'ians. I told him so. Maybe if he listens to his critics, he might survive.
Cast Iron Stomach here Joebob. Yes I survived. I posted my opinion of Taco Kabana in the LOTA TRUCKS thread. I only had the tacos, they only had steak. I thought they were better than most places on the island and enjoyed them. I also realize that means I've lived here too long, but at least they left me with a warm buzz in my stomach instead of the lump of lead I often have. I haven't had a chance to get back, nor have I been able to get over to Zaratez yet.
I do see its right by two of my least favorite most over-rated italian places, Medeteraneo and Sistina . . .
Is it Cali Mex, Tex Mex, New Mexican or Authentic Mexican? This is an important question to a girl who cut her teeth on Tex Mex & would cut a bitch for a good cheese enchilada about now. ;)
