They would be about equal in cost and I'm wondering what people would choose.

I wouldn't do the shorter menu at Per Se. If you're going to Per Se, you should do the full menu. The seven course menu at Per Se is $235 (the 5 course is $185), while the full tasting menu at EMP is $195. If cost is the consideration, I would definitely recommend the EMP menu which is offered at both lunch and dinner. I've had the EMP menu twice in the past few months, and have had the 20 course extended tasting menu at Per Se about 6 weeks ago.

If price was not a consideration, would you go with EMP or Per Se? (I'm planning this event for a group)

Both restaurants have exquisite food and perfect service. EMP's NY themed menu is more fun. Will probably return quicker to EMP.

Thank you! I'll go with EMP...hopefully I'll be able to get a reservation 28 days in advance.

That's the biggest problem! I lucked out on my second dinner this year at EMP that OpenTable showed a last minute availability (like 2 hours before dinner). My first visit I scheduled for midweek hoping that early January midweek wouldn't be so difficult.

EMP with a group for sure, Just way more fun and interactive.

      2. Both have outstanding food, but IMHO EMP has a more fun and vibrant ambiance and more whimsical, interesting food. A meal at Per Se is about elegance and great food whereas a meal at EMP is a true dining experience. Elegant, yet in a more comfortable and laid back way - just as polished service, but the servers are far more personable and the food is not just great - but tells a story and is fun.

        1. +1 for EMP.

Per Se is great, but its desserts, which used to be really sophisticated, are becoming dull and boring these days.
