Where to buy Half Smokes in Philly area

Grew up there and my grandparents were fond of half-smokes (maybe Medford?). They are long gone now. Will be back for a visit in May. Anyone know where I might buy a couple of packages. . . .and which brand or brands to choose? Prefer stores in either Delaware County or Philadelphia, but am prepared to go elsewhere, if necessary.

Half smokes. You've triggered an ancient memory. Haven't thought of them in about 40 yrs.

Apparently they are the official hot dog of the stupid Washington Nationals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-smoke That should tell you all you need to know.

I do not know what a half smoke is. Assuming its a lightly smoked sausage.
Making another jump, if you love sausages and are willing to drive a little. You need to try CZERWS, jalepeno and cheese "Popper Keilbassi" and their regular Kielbassi. The BEST anywhere.

They are on Tilton st a tiny street off Ontario and Aramingo. pronounced CHEVS

tzanghi: thanks. Half smokes used to be made by a number of meat packers in and around Philly, but maybe they just aren't in fashion any longer. Tastes change. When I first moved to DC, I was surprised that people thought that half smokes were unique to that city, or perhaps to Baltimore.

I have found historical news stories and even ads in Philly publications going back to the 1870s and continuing through at least the 1960s. But nothing recent. Maybe someone else will have some ideas, short of driving to Baltimore.

I have searched far and near for these elusive sausages since migrating from the D.C. area to no avail. I would love to hear they are available, but I've been to most of the popular sausage vendors without luck. I hope that changes, though!
