About a week ago, I went to the new Austin prime steak/seafood venue called Eddie V's. I'm not hopeful.
The place has a very nice polished wood white linens steakhouse feel and the service was quite good, but it is LOUD and the food isn't that great.
I started with oysters, which were very nice while others went for crab cakes. Bad move on the crab. The cakes had lots of lump crab and not much filler, but the crab had seen better days.
On to the entrees, where I chose a prime ribeye. Perfectly cooked, but I doubt that it was prime. A strip steak for someone else at the table was of similar quality and the general consensus was not prime. Both cuts were a little tough and tasted watery.
Seafood entrees seemed to please and I had a bit of sea bass that was simply prepared and quite nice. Sides are good but unispired and little overpriced ($4.95 for cheese grits). The wine list wasn't bad and the prices were OK, but I'll have trouble justifying a return trip after the sub-prime steak and elderly crab.
