I'm going for lunch next week, never been there. Can anyone tell me what I should order? I have no idea where to park either! Chinatown is not normally in my radar! Thanks everyone!
I love Happy Garden. Having been to most or all of the Dim Sum restaurants in and around Chinatown. HG is my favorite.
Legends let me down about a month ago for the last time. Mei Sum is past it's prime. Fook is good.
Tai Pan is good.
Nothing beats the "plumpness" and freshness of HG. The Chinese Broccoli is amazing also.
Open at 7am, long lines later in the day.
They make their own Chili Sauce also.
Parking is best at Municipal Parking off Beretaina just past Bethel. Followed by a 5 min walk.
Thanks guys! I am really looking forward to this lunch! If you both like it "I'm In!" I'll let you know. I am interested in that crispy eggplant. Hopefully that will make up for the parking! The people I'm going with eat there often and I think I'm just going to defer to their expertise!
So I went yesterday for lunch. There were 5 of us and we had the large round table in the back. The entire table was covered in food at one point. I can't tell you everything that we ate nor the names. One of the guests eats there all the time and he just reeled off items to the server in rapid fire. I include 2 pictures. One is of the table with almost all of the food (more kept arriving) and the other is the carry out area when you walk in. I do know we had these crispy little pockets that had shrimp inside that they mixed sugar and a mayonnaise type sauce for dipping. We had these little filled pockets of chives with that yummy house made chili sauce (Russkar you were right, that sauce is amazing!). We had the ong chou, beef with crispy noodle cake. Some sort of seafood package with crab, & shrimp. A scallop dish. EVERYTHING was delicious! I was most impressed. Sorry for the lack of complete detail. I parked right up from there in one of those pay/park places. It was $5.00 for 2 hours which I used up the entire time. The meters were all 1 hour and I didn't want to have to go in and out. We got there at 11:30 and within minutes the place was completely full. Nice server and I also enjoyed the tea.
Gee, I can't figure out what happened! Here is the picture I thought I posted first. Turns out it was the table of food that came through. Here is the take out area of dim sum, there were lots of people who came in and left with bags of food. I noticed too lots of big carry out orders leaving the restaurant as well. It is obvious for lunch you have to go really early or carry out.
