Is it heresy to ask that a thread be locked?

Kris in Beijing Apr 1, 2013 07:20 PM

So, is IT heresy to ask that a thread be locked?

  1. The Chowhound Team Apr 2, 2013 11:17 AM

We're not sure if you mean in general or a thread you started, but in either case, you can ask but we may or may not do it. We're happy to look at a thread people think might have gone totally off the rails, but like everything else that gets flagged, we make our own call on whether it needs locking, pruning, a Team note asking people to refocus, etc.

If you're going to ask for something to be locked, please use Flag and leave us a note, rather than posting about it in the thread itself. Public posts are pretty much guaranteed to go badly, and we may not even see them.

I'd like the entire Banana board locked.

Thank god for April 2 ...

No, let the Banana board live forever. Every site needs comic relief.

It was funny maybe the first 5 or 6 posts (maybe even the first 10).

Now? It's like day-old tuna tartare. Stale and overplayed.

But it should live on forever in-flambe-y.
            [infamy].

Just as a Read Only fun thing. And West Coasters/ IDL posters still need some time to play.

SO, lock it allllll up about 6 a.m EST 2 April 13?

It is indeed played. Although, I would have compared it to week old bluefish scraps sitting in my garbage can after cleaning the bounty from a July run.

I really enjoyed waking up to the joke and watching the creativity fly. It also illustrated for me that when the CH Team wants to get behind an idea/project (even CHOW had a funny tip video that took some time to produce) anything is possible.

Imagine letting us monkeys throw a few bananas....I loved it!

The subject headings on the banana board are a hoot!

I spose lettin' the monkeys throw some bananas is better then lettin' 'em toss their feces, right?

funnier yet...and, the BS doesn't get thrown around here every day of the week? what a hoot!

Then, perhaps, the solution would be to do a weekly "nonsense" thread. We could vote on 'em like the COTM threads? I'd suggest next week could be "fish tails" (a/k/a "fish tales"). Or, maybe we should go with another fruit and do pineapples? Think about it, there's a great deal of potential in each.

Go all the way, and give it its own Discussion Category:

                                Bullshit Board.

Love it. We could have the Bullshit Board Nonsense Topic of the Month. The "BBNTOTM" thread where people suggest things like "Oranges" or "Turkey Necks".

And we can call people out for trying to be genuine on the Bullshit Board.

As in, "Don't tell me that I have to tip extra if the waiter peels my banana for me. You've never bullshitted authentically in your entire life. I've bulshitted all over the world! Where I grew up people never bullshitted like that."

Don't we already have that board, just disguised under the heading "Not About Food?"

it's like the music that only Blanche in "Streetcar Named Desire" hears before the gunshot. or that damn calliope in real-life NOLA that nobody hears but me.

(double checked it again - goes right to the Banana board)

nowhere can mean so many things, in fact James Brown once, in song, declared "nowhere's some place to go"

                3. Servorg Apr 1, 2013 07:39 PM

It's hearsay. I hear you say it but that don't mean the mod's are gonna do it...
