Calling out anyone who remembers Old Roma in Flushing

Hi! Having a moment of nostalgia and recalling the many many times I had the good fortune of dining at the Old Roma with my family. I was there with my Grandma the last week they were open and we begged to take home any extra meat sauce they had!

I was hoping a CH'er would have access to recipes for the meat sauce and the out of this world Old Roma Cake.

Thank you!

  1. I remember Old Roma!!! I begged them not to close, the best Italian bread and generous with it. Hands down best Italian restaurant in Flushing. Used to always order their veal Old Roma.

It's been so long but I believe, the Old Roma Cake had a yellow sponge layer and pineapple in the filling in addition to chocolate and a chocolate layer.

Thanks, Pookipichu! I think there was definitely some rum in that cake too. It was my mother and grandmother's favorite and I would love to recreate that and the meat sauce. Hopefully there is someone out there who has recipes!

    2. Went there almost every Sunday with my family in the 70's and 80's until my grandparents retired to Florida. Fried veal cutlets on top of linguine with garlic and oil and a loaf of the Italian bread on the side!

We have similar taste, my "go to" was always the spaghetti with garlic and oil...I still can't get my garlic and oil as excellent as their's was.
