Dinner for 30/40

tonyjohnson54 Apr 1, 2013 05:10 AM

I have to organise a dinner for 30 international guests in San Diego in May. What shoudn't I miss - fairly sophisticated crowd, preferably outside dining, all from out of town, so something with a Southern California flavour. Private space would be good, but not essential. Price range not an issue - within reason! Thanks!

With a group of that size, you might want to check with Cucina Urbana on Banker's Hill.

I think their food has the "Southern California flavour" you're looking for and if you talk to the restaurant they could probably give you the entire room, or at least 3/4 of main dining area.

        Alchemy in South Park.

I believe The Sky Room at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla is now being used exclusively for private events. Probably the best view in San Diego and one of the best chefs in town (Paul McCabe) is running the kitchen. Check it out.

What a great place to really WOW the International guests..
Get there about an hour before sunset, cocktails and app's and dinner.

Love the Sky Room and after dinner give the guests some time to walk around the village of LJ.
Get a party bus to get you all to and from the convention center.

Another thought is the Marine Room..

You would be big man on campus Tony!

Sorry - I should have added that it has to be easy access to the convention center- perhaps a maximum of 25 mins on foot.

If that's the case, then I think Jsix (recommended up above by Beach Chick) would be your best bet.

Do they have the same horrid chairs that they do in the resto?

Not sure but even though the chairs are not great I don't think they are really bad

Oliver and Rose, the private venue operated by Cafe Chloe (across the street) may fit the bill. I threw a party in this place for 25 and it was like having Cafe Chloe to yourselves. Very cool room, and possible the coolest private event space in SD.

Give their events person a call.

Thanks all - It seems as though Cafe Chloe, Oliver& Rose and Jsix are on the short-list. Going down there tomorrow to check them out. Any other last minute additions?
