Faye Willie's (San Antonio)

I just got back from a trip to San Antonion, Texas.

I had a marvelous meal at Faye Willie's in San Antonio, a barbecue joint near the Alamodome.

I'm curious to know whether this place is a fitting representation of Texas 'cue or, as a barbecue deprived New Yorker, was I just hoodwinked?

  1. You were "hoodwinked". The best place for bbq is without a doubt, Rudy's. They have the self proclaimed "Worst Barbeque" that you can find. Great food and great atmosphere as well. All locations are gas stations and you order what you want by the pound or however much you want. The turkey is the best that you will ever have anywhere in the world. Along with this spicy bbq is a fine selection of beer on ice in several horse troughs. This place is a must if you are ever in the area.

All right! BBQ wars! Since somebody has got to take exception, I might as well start. Rudy's is good, but there's better to be had (can't say about Faye Willie's, never been there). Opie's and a place in Elgin (whose name I can't remember right now) both rank higher in my lists -- but any bbq is better than no bbq.

I have not tried Faye Willie's ,You will have to go out of S.A. to get real BBQ. Rudy's is OK I guess if you like places like Bill Millers for your BBQ, for REAL BBQ go to Kreuz's in Lockhart or Cooper's in Llano or Louie Muellers outside of Austin, these where named the top three in Texas by Texas Monthly Mag. in May 1997 . After I read the article I had to try them, I have to agree with Texas Monthly they are the best.
