New Mexican Find in Austin

I just had lunch at a Mexican meat market / grocery / lunch counter called El Michoacan on East 7th street about 10 blocks east of the interstate. You pay 5 bucks at the checkout line for a lunch plate, then go to the counter and look over about 15 different dishes (mostly unbelievably savory looking stews) and decide which two you want. Communicate your wishes to the spanish speaking ladies who were kind enough to prepare this feast and you'll get your choices with freshly made tortillas, beans and rice, and lettuce and tomato topped with an avacado salsa.
I had a pork and green chile stew with zucchini and a beef and red chile stew. Both were excellent. Everything on display looked mouth wateringly good and spicy. I can't wait to go back and try some other items.
Another plus is that they have a great Mexican meat counter with fresh looking meats (beef, pork, chicken and cabrito), good produce and a very wide variety of Mexican import items. We did a little shopping after lunch and came away with some neat finds.
Viva El Michoacan!
